:
  • 3.0 out of 5 stars from Econ Lover -- Objective biographical work, left-leaning bias : The beginning chapters provide excellent insight into the early lives of Samuelson and Friedman and the roots of their decades-long debate. As you read past the biographical parts, it becomes clear that Nicholas Wapshott has a left-leaning bias that turns what would be an informative book on the views of the 20th century's greatest economists into a work dedicated to smearing the reputation of Milton Friedman. For example, the final chapter questions the possibility of a link between Friedman's work and the January 6th riot and asks whether Milton Friedman would've worn a mask during the pandemic. The author seems to present the complex economic arguments of both Samuelson and Friedman from a political standpoint while at the same time accusing Friedman of being nothing more than a politician while ignoring his important contributions to economics. I recommend the book because you will learn some interesting facts about Samuelson and Friedman, but keep in mind the author's bias when presenting ideas on economics. • from David Shulman -- VINE VOICE : The Clash ( 4.0 out of 5 stars )
  • 4.0 out of 5 stars from Tom Graham -- Mostly excellent recap of interplay between two brilliant, articulate giants. : Book is uneven. Most appears objective, well researched and often excellent. The last chapter, touching on January 6 2021 debacle and COVID19 pandemonium, detract. This betrays authors bias and could be improved with more balanced assessment. • 3.0 out of 5 stars from David D. Friedman -- Careless about facts : I have only read so far the sample on Amazon, after my cousin emailed me to point out "“Milton Friedman was born on July 31, 1912 in Brooklyn, the last child and second son of Jeno and Sara’s four children.” To the best of my knowledge, and his, my father had no brothers.
